Crane Arrestor System

General Description

The system has been designed to prevent cranes being blown along the track in adverse weather conditions.  The actual stopping mechanism consists of two wedges mounted into a steel frame.  This assembly drops onto the railhead in a stationary position relative to the rail and the crane wheels run onto the wedges.  Thus converting kinetic into potential energy as the crane is lifted vertically by the wedge engagement at the wheel/rail interface.  The excess friction generated by the trapped wedges quickly brings the crane to rest in a controlled and effective manner.
